A DREAM

Once upon a dream

Two people meet

In the end

Only one of them leaves

The other stays

Right there

As the cruel autumn winds

Blow their way into the subconscious

Of somebody who knows

That by the end of this

All they will be left with

Will be the cold image of a winter solstice

And the remnants of a dream

That was far too real

To be anything

But a life

Within a life

That set fire

To a soul

That was never

Theirs to own

I tried to suppress it

But everywhere I go

I am conflicted

Because I know I loved you so,

So dearly

And so carefully

For the slightest mishap

Or the faintest flickering

Of a broken lightbulb

Could wake you up

And take you from me

When all I’ve ever wanted

Has been handed to me

On a silver platter

Why is it that

When we wake up

From our

Oh so warm slumber

We shall think:

What was it

That we awoke from

The memories of a

Love ablaze?

No

That can’t be

As we go on

With what our lives used to be

We will stop wondering

And forget all about the other

Our thoughts will be replaced

And we will think

Perhaps

It was all

A fever-dream

And nothing important
